Session Information

What to expect

Before the first session Lisa offers a brief introductory phone call.  You will be provided with written information covering confidentiality, privacy, consent, and fees and payments.

  • You can book an appointment and bring your GP referral, or your GP may send the referral directly to Lisa.

  • Sessions run for 50-60 minutes. The first session will include an assessment of your reasons for attending. Lisa will encourage you to speak freely and openly, as well as to ask your own questions.

The main purpose of the first session is to

    ·      Ensure you feel comfortable and safe with Lisa

    ·      identify goals or problems to work on

    ·      agree on an evidence-based, tailored plan for working on your goals/problems (including the number of sessions needed)

    ·      help you get started with some homework

  • You are encouraged to book subsequent sessions ahead of time – weekly, fortnightly, or a schedule that best suits your needs.

  • Therapy sessions are a critical catalyst for change, but homework is a very important part of the therapy process. Developing and practicing new skills and ways of thinking/behaving through homework is the best way to reinforce what you learn and ensure you get the most value out of therapy.

Therapy homework is not demanding and should not be complicated, but you are encouraged to give it your attention between sessions (just as you would do physical exercises between physiotherapy appointments).

Lisa will work with you to find the types of homework you prefer. Examples of homework are reading, writing, and thought or behavioural experiments but you are encouraged to suggest any ideas.
